A Path to Hope
Romans 5:1-5 (NRSV) Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God. And not only that, but we boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.
We have peace with God, and we have the future hope of eternity with Him.
We boast (glory, exult, rejoice) in our suffering.
Psalm 22:1-2 My God, my God, why hast Thou forsaken me? Why art Thou so far from helping me, from the words of my groaning? O my God, I cry by day, but Thou dost not answer; and my night, but find no rest.
Psalm 22:22 I will tell of Thy name to my brethren; in the midst of the congregation I will praise Thee.
Knowing that our suffering produces endurance.
Endurance leads to proven character.
Proven character produces present hope.
Hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured and is pouring love into our hearts, to sustain us now, in the midst of our sufferings.
