Trees, Clay, and Glass

Romans 5:1-5 NRSV 5 Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand, and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God. 3 And not only that, but we also boast in our afflictions, knowing that affliction produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.

James 1:2-4 (NRSV) My brothers and sisters, whenever you face various trials, consider it all joy, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance. 4 And let endurance complete its work, so that you may be complete and whole, lacking in nothing.

God makes broken things beautiful.

Ecclesiastes 3:11 NIV 11 He has made everything beautiful in its time.

We don’t let our brokenness define us.

Lamentations 3:22-24 (MSG) God’s loyal love couldn’t have run out, his merciful love couldn’t have dried up. They’re created new every morning. How great your faithfulness! I’m sticking with God (I say it over and over). He’s all I’ve got left.

Surrender your brokenness to the master artist.

Isaiah 61:2a, 3 (NLT) 2 He has sent me to tell those who mourn that the time of the Lord’s favor has come… 3 To all who mourn in Israel, he will give a crown of beauty for ashes,

God makes broken things beautiful.

Psalm 139:7-11 (NLT) 7 I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence! 8 If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there. 9 If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, 10 even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me. 11 I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night— 12 but even in darkness I cannot hide from you.

Genesis 28:16 (NRSV) 16 Then Jacob woke from his sleep and said, “Surely the Lord is in this place—and I did not know it!”
